Pillar 01 · Holistic Learning & Skill Development

Learning that opens a stronger future.

Education and practical skills help children stay in school, grow in confidence and imagine a future beyond the limits of their circumstances. SKOM’s learning pillar brings that support closer to home.

Why it matters

Keeping children learning in island communities.

On the islands, distance, cost and the pull of fishing work can interrupt a child’s education.

SKOM’s learning pillar aims to make learning support more accessible — through community-based hubs, practical materials, tutoring and mentorship — while also helping children develop the life skills, leadership and confidence they need.

For older children aged 12–15, vocational exposure offers an early look at practical skills and future pathways.
